The Southern African Railways Association (SARA) is pleased to announce that Namibia has confirmed a high-level Namibian delegation will participate in the 13th Annual International Southern African Railways Association (SARA) Conference and Exhibition. The delegation includes the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Works and Transport represented by the Hon. Veikko Nekundi, TransNamib’s Board Members, TransNamib’s senior officials, and the Director of Railways Infrastructure Management from the Ministry of Works and Transport.
Namibia is actively engaged in several regional railway projects, each at different stages of development, most notably the Trans-Kalahari Railway Project. These initiatives are complemented by the recapitalization of their internal railway operations, involving significant upgrades and major capital investments in new rolling stock. The SARA event presents a prime opportunity for participants and delegates to explore these opportunities and establish valuable business relationships.
The Southern African Railways Association (SARA) is the mandated rail transport body for the SADC region, playing a pivotal role in advancing railway development not just in Southern Africa but across the entire continent through its network of railway operator members. SARA’s efforts are integral to enhancing the efficiency and connectivity of Africa’s rail networks, thereby boosting continental trade and contributing to the sustainable development of the region.
The International Southern African Railways Association (SARA) Conference and Exhibition, hosted by railway operators from the region, is scheduled to take place from 20 – 23 August 2024 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Sandton, South Africa. This prestigious event serves as a platform for industry leaders, stakeholders, and innovators to discuss and explore the latest advancements and opportunities in railway infrastructure and operations.
This year’s theme, “Boosting Continental Trade via Rail: Investments in African Railways for the Sustainable Development of the Continent,” highlights the critical role of railway investments and infrastructure development in promoting sustainable trade and development across Africa. The theme aligns with the continental objectives outlined in both Agenda 2063, known as “The Africa We Want,” and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The SARA Conference and Exhibition provides an unparalleled opportunity for networking with key players in the rail industry. Participants can engage directly with leaders and decision-makers to discuss the latest developments and explore potential collaborations that can drive the future of African railways.
