Johannesburg, 21 February 2025 – The Financial and Accounting Services Sector Education and Training Authority (FASSET) will host the WSP Research Summit across three provinces: Johannesburg (24th February 2025), Durban (25th February 2025), and Cape Town (28th February 2025). The summit aims to address the critical need for improved data collection with the finance and accounting services sector, enabling FASSET to better align its skills development programs with sector needs.
As the mandated skills authority for the FAS Sector, FASSET’s work hinges on accurate data, especially Workplace Skills Plans (WSP) and Annual Training Reports (ATR). However, a decline in submissions has led to incomplete data, impacting effective planning and intervention. The summit will emphasize the importance of WSP/ATR submissions, not just as a regulatory requirement but as a valuable opportunity for employers to influence sector skills development.
“The role of data in driving skills development cannot be overstated. These submissions are vital for shaping training programs that meet the sector’s needs,” said FASSET ACEO, Mr Makabongwe Siziba.
The summit will also present key findings from the Sector Skills Plan (SSP) 2025-2030, highlighting change drivers like digital transformation, the fourth industrial revolution (4IR), and the demand for digital and technical skills. It will also explore high-demand roles in accounting and auditing, such as External Auditors and Tax Professionals.
FASSET’s goal is to increase WSP/ATR submissions, ensuring a robust, well-trained workforce ready to meet future sector demands.
